Discipline is harsh for the one who leaves the path; the one who hates correction will die.(Proverbs 15:10)
God is such a good parent and he wants us, his children to grow up as mature Christians, achieving the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13). Part of the maturing process is helping us to take responsibility for our lives. One of the most important things to me as a father is to have a strong bond with my children. I want them to grow up having a strong personal connection with our Lord, to understand his love for each of us, for the world, and to understand the sense of responsibility that we as Christians have for living our lives according to his Word.
Dr. Henry cloud tells us that we need to teach our children to know what they’re responsible for and know what they aren’t responsible for; our children need to know how to say no and know how to accept no. Responsibility is a gift of an enormous value! It seems the more that I teach these values, the more I’m forced against the wall, battling Satan’s worldly values one-handed. It’s a momentary, helpless human feeling, but I know that the Lord is in control and ultimately, He will knock this wall of stubbornness down.
Be strong for the Lord is with us!
